Christmas is getting closer and closer, which means it’s definitely the right time to think about putting up holiday decorations. Buying the Christmas tree, hanging some beautiful baubles and, of course, adding a little bling with moody lights. So how to attach Christmas lights to a stone wall inside or outside of your home? Let’s find out!
No matter what kind of surface your stone has - whether it is uneven and highly textured or smooth and polished - you want to avoid solutions that may damage it in any way. It is no surprise that the most popular methods of putting up indoor or outdoor stone wall lighting use non-invasive elements and can be dismantled very quickly. What are the most widespread techniques?
One of the most common techniques implements the use of hot glue. Why? Because it is quick, easy and weatherproof! The key here is putting the glue on the sides of the base of each bulb and not on the string itself. This way, you will attach the heaviest points of the Christmas lights, and the whole project will be much more stable. After you add the glue on, press the element firmly against the stone and hold it for a while, so the adhesive can work its magic. What’s essential, you can use hot glue to attach Christmas lights, so they present various forms, such as a star, Christmas tree or a heart. It is worth remembering that removing the cord is even easier than installing it - all you need to do is shake the string a little, and it should effortlessly come off.
What if you don’t have a hot glue gun in your possession? How to attach Christmas lights to a stone wall then? Another popular method uses clips dedicated to hanging up lights, which you can purchase in hardware stores or online. What’s essential, they can be attached to most surfaces, even those with texture. Of course, it is best to choose versions that are made out of transparent material so they won’t be seen easily. And if you can’t seem to find the clips, you can always reach for removable mounting tape or removable mounting strips. These products should work both inside and outside.
If you want to consider methods more invasive than the ones shown above, you can always opt to drill tiny holes in the mortar between the stones and install the anchors there. Of course, this solution will work only with construction where mortar is placed considerably evenly across the area. Also, it is best to use hooks when you want to attach outdoor stone wall lighting for Christmas. On the other hand, if pieces of the stone in your home are large, smooth and connected seamlessly, it won’t be a good idea to try this method.
